This 19th-century country town hotel is perfectly located on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, in the tranquil village of Rothbury, just 11 miles from Alnwick. It boasts an award-winning Italian restaurant.

✓ Good and friendly staff, the breakfast was also good.
✗ the hotel itself needs a bit of a make over, the paint is not that nice at a lott of places, the locks are loose, the bathtub is a bit old and dusty.
✓ Breakfast excellent, very friendly staff, lovely rooms.
✗ Shower in one of the two rooms was weak but usable.
✓ Nice large room, quiet setting and good location to village.
✗ No restaurant despite a menu being set to me upon booking and a big banner outside saying restaurant open. Tv only worked on a few channels.
✓ The room was great. Good facilities and very clean. Plus a great price.
✗ The entrance is very tired and could do with decorating.
✓ The room was superb, huge and a lovely bath after a long walk
✗ On the day I arrived the owners decided to stop doing evening meals 😡. On the plus side the person who checked me in was very helpful and booked me a table at a local pub
✓ The building should be preserved, it's a gem. Staff doing a great job, big thanks to Christine.
✗ Restaurant closed by management and bar stocks run down. Not ideal after a long day travelling.
✓ Breakfast comprised of good quality ingredients well cooked. Perfect poached egg. Comfortable bed. Location is excellent with easy parking. Friendly and helpful staff. Good value for money.
✗ Nothing to dislike at the price.
✓ We had a comfortable room and a good night’s sleep. A good full breakfast in the morning. The hotel has a good deal of character, is nicely situated just outside the centre of the village and provided secure indoor storage for our bikes.
✗ It is understaffed. The existing staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, but they were having to work very hard to cope with the number of guests. The interior of the building has lots of character but looks tired and is long overdue redecoration. Our room was fine, but in our friends room one of the beds was broken. A temporary fix had been cobbled together but it was inadequate. Guests at a hotel should not be expected to sleep on a broken bed. The issue was raised with a member of staff the next morning, but they clearly did not have the authority to do anything about it. We would like to use this hotel again should we return to Rothbury but it felt like it was waiting to be closed down. Sad, because it has huge potential.
