All in all excellent would go again. It’s on a charming path to L’Escala one way and Sant Marti d’Empurues

✓ It’s location Next to the Greco Roman archeological site and right on the beach

✗ Bathrooms are weird with a window from the bedroom to bathroom. They did have a curtain. It took us to our third shower to find the light and extractor — in the bedroom I’m nitpicking though as it’s a lovely big room with a private sitting area outside

Delightful

✓ The stunning location overlooking the cove, hearing the waves in our room at night, as always. The room decor and throughout the hotel generally very attractive (apart from the bar, see below) . Most of the staff, especially at reception, very friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast and dinner.

✗ The bar. Terrible experience! Extremely poor service: inexperienced staff and not enough. I had asked for an negroni. Twenty mins later my husband arrived and went to chase it up. He asked for it twice more, staying in the bar area, waiting. I finally came in and got a bit cross with the manager who said his staff didn’t speak English (Negroni is international I think?) as if that were the useful response. An apology, and the manager bringing the drink out himself might have been more helpful and assuaging. Moreover, hopelessly designed outside seating for the bar. Very stylish to look at but only seating a mere handful of people, some rather uncomfortably at that, backless and having to twist to see the view. And as the hotel beach cafe closes at exactly the time people coming off the beach want a cup of tea or a beer etc, the hotel bar gets flooded by both guests and outsiders. Please, please, rethink this. Very upsetting to see families standing waiting for 15 mins and then leaving, without even being asked for an order or alternative seating. A disgrace to this elegant and gracious hotel. (Also, because of this area, you have to trek with great difficulty to tables if you want to eat breakfast outside.)

Exceptional

✓ Wonderful place at a beautiful waterfront location .Lovely rooms..Great facilities.Fine dinner dining and great buffet breakfast using mostly local and organic produce. A pleasant walk to L'Escala and very close to the ruins.

Beachfront

✓ A very pleasant stay in this beachfront hotel. The boardwalk in the morning before a huge breakfast was a highlight. Large bedroom and quiet place. Friendly and helpful staff (reception, bar, spa). The well heated bedroom was welcomed during the cold spell.

Not returning !

✓ Staff were very nice. When we ate in the hotel the food was excellent.

✗ The managers attitude was not pleasant. We had no wardrobes in our room and his answer was that we should leave our clothes in our suitcase. We were attending a wedding with suits and long dresses etc and were stating for 5 nights and the accommodation was not good enough.

✗ Dinner menu was limited. Phone service, though that might not have been Hostal’s fault.
