"Remote village stay
✓ The apartments are functional and perfectly fine for a break in the beautiful region. It is a fairly remote location (there's an earlier review about the location that was very helpful), but easily driveable to the ski areas within 30mins when the roads are accessible as they were.
✗ There was some noise from some of the other residents, but that is not the fault of the owners. The living area is compact and we had a small bathroom, but it was perfectly fine for a few days, so all in all, I give it a decent thumbs up.
"Going back nest year
✓ A great location for skiers who want to keep the cost down by staying outside the main resort and driving in, the apartment is midway between the Baqueira and Espot ski resorts (10 miles approx to each, 15 miles to the Baqueira resort center) The apartment was clean, spacious (compared to other ski accommodation I have visited) and well-equipped, with parking available directly across the road.
The town is perfect if you really want to get away from it all, it only consists of a few houses, apartments, a couple of hotels which did not look very busy, and a church. Even the nearest shop is a drive (or a decent walk, uphill on the way back) and it is also a great spot for hikers with a number of signposts denoting trails around the Pyrenees.
Needless to say, it's probably not the place for you if your plans include hitting the nightclubs every night!
The host was very helpful and supportive, all stay long, even when my plans changed and I had to check out a few days early.
Baqueira is a great resort with 150+ KM of piste and a very good lift system. Be aware you might need show chains or socks for your vehicle to get over the pass from the apartments to Baqueira,, depending on the weather.
On days this pass was blocked, I could still get to Espot in the other direction. Espot is a small resort mainly used by school trips who mostly stay on the baby slopes, which means that the bigger slopes are almost empty, and the only lift queue I saw was when a coachload of kids had just arrived, otherwise the bigger slopes and lifts were almost empty. Espot is best visited when both chairlifts are open - the BOSC lift is key to opening up the area.
✗ Be aware you might need show chains or socks for your vehicle to get over the pass to Baqueira, depending on the weather.
Espot ski passes have to be bought through the resort application - there was no manned sales point when I skied there. The app only works in Spanish and Catalan so can be a problem, to navigate for English-only speakers. Once purchased, a barcode is sent to your email, and a machine in the resort will scan this from your phone and issue you a pass.
This is not meant as a criticism, but Brits & Irish should be aware that we are a bit of a novelty in the area, don't expect menus and signage in English at every bar and restaurant. If you are not skilled in Spanish or Catalan then make sure you have a good translator app on your phone.
