On the slopes of Joyama Mountain, Hakonenomori Okada Hotel features open-air hot-spring baths overlooking forested hills. Japanese and Western rooms are available, all with a private bathroom and satellite TV.

✓ Beautiful set up and the room was nice and spacious.
✗ Transportation was very poor. Very few taxis were available. Long wait for taxi and shuttle buses to anywhere.
✓ A hotel staff who appeared was quite nice. She looks like an Asian, probably not Japanese but speaks fluent Japanese and is really good at explaining how to use hotel facilities. She has good smile which makes me smile, too. I just wanted to say thank you to her in person but couldn’t see her when we checked out. I just regret that I should’ve said that at that time. And there are 2 comfy beds in our room and these ones brought both us good sleep.
✗ There is high steep which is too hard to climb. I wished there would be shuttle bus that goes to the hotel directly.
✓ The onsen (natural hot bath)
✗ Difficult to access (steep road, no shuttle)
✓ The facilities for sauna and for recreation were great.
✗ The room was smelling mold and the staff is not speaking English at all.
✓ Staff polite and friendly. Facilities clean and tidy. Tatami room spotless, spacious and comfortable. Bathroom area small for me, but normal Japanese standards. Breakfast abundant, fresh and delicious. Dinner course very well prepared and selected. Very efficient service as well. Hot spring area spacious, spotless, comfortable and relaxing. Ryokan is in a very steep hill, but offers a van transfer! Snacks and drinks available at reception and vending machines.
✓ Traditional experience Being able to benefit from the spa belonging to the sister hotel Average breakfast but at least it was available onsite
✗ Additionally paying shuttle bus taking into account that the property cannot be reached by public transport and is situated in a remote location. Staff wasn't very helpful nor friendly No water offered in the room
✓ The hot springs are perfect. I came for it and it didn’t let me down.
✗ Geez, I definitely recommend you take a taxi at the train station. Or you need to walk 20 mins to the hotel (it’s uphill btw) after you took the bus.
✓ The onsen is amazing. Beautiful location
✗ It's very difficult to walk from the station to the hotel with big luggage because the street is very steep.
In our hotel's policy, people who had tatoo aren't allowed to take the public onsen. However, you are able to take a bath in your room (not hot spring) .
