Set in the idyllic Hertfordshire countryside, Champneys Tring health resort has modern rooms in a classic English stately home.

✓ I was woken up in the middle of the night (3am) by the police, looking for a missing person. Not Champneys fault I know but I was worried in case it was bogus, (2 strange men at the door claiming to be the police) and was concerned about opening the door to them. I had to call down to the night porter and also make enquiries with the police, to make sure I wasn't in any danger. I was a lady traveling alone. A bit of reassurance from the staff would have been good as I was really worried (in case something had happened to my family) and couldn't sleep at all after that experience. When I spoke to reception in the morning they knew nothing about it, (which concerned me even more). I have sent in an official complaint but this hasn't been taken seriously at all!
✗ A member of staff should have accompanied them, or called my room. To let me know what was happening and re assure me of the circumstances that the police were coming to my room. A check up call would have been nice, (I called them). Also I called the police the next day to ensure it was genuine (which it was). I would have expected the hotel reception to do this on my behalf, in order to re assure their guest. Very disappointed, won't be tying again.
✓ The facilities. Hydro pool is my personal favourite. Felt comfortable being on my own. I also like the cafe. Had tea there after breakfast. Also liked the view from the window. Nice to open the window in the morning and breathe clean air...
✗ I liked everything. I think it would be nice to have a small fridge or cooler in the room in summer. Most rooms of this standard( and it was a very good standard ) have a fridge
✓ spa and restaurant
✗ power cut and lack of reception
✓ Beautiful location with room overlooking lawns
✗ I asked for a quiet room due to working nights and sleeping in the mornings. The room I had was next to a slamming door. The staff came into my room even though I locked it from the inside to clean whilst I was trying to sleep - waking me up. There was no information in the room about the facilities, breakfast times etc.
✓ Facilities and breakfast was excellent .
✗ Rooms need fresh paint and modern bathrooms
✓ Stunning grounds
✗ The staff, whilst friendly, need training in "hospitality". The hotel is just a little "tired".
✓ The location and facilities
✗ Lack of communication
✓ It was a fantastic break away and time to relax in beautiful surroundings.
✗ Hard to work your way round the location. There could be more distinct signage particularly in the outer grounds trying to find way in and out. It took a long time and several times of asking to get a pot of tea at breakfast.
