Boasting river views, Punerjeni Homes features accommodation with a restaurant and a balcony, around 11 km from Mullakkal Rajarajeswari Temple.

✓ Thoroughly enjoyed. Location is far from Alleppey but you get to stay in a less touristy spot and experience more of the real lifestyle of people living amongst the backwaters. Beautiful accommodation, comfy beds and clean private bathroom is a huge bonus.
✗ Upon arrival, the host showed me to the room and wandered off. From other reviews I expected a warmer welcome and an invitation to explore the area / kayak / boat trips / anything.. but nothing was offered. An hour after I was shown to my room, I took the liberty of asking myself, the host then called around and organised the activities I was interested in and arranged it well. From there on, I felt welcomed and enjoyed my stay even more. Although it wasn't as much of an inviting-family-homestay experience I expected, I understand why they kept their distance as there were many negative comments by domestic Indian tourists saying the family was too forward and involved, they found any opportunity to complain. To these people I say: SHUTUP AND GO TO A HOTEL. This is a homestay and those are the things you should expect. I hope my feedback here is taken productively by the host as I truly enjoyed the experience. Perhaps it would be a good idea to cater your approach to travellers between locals and foreigners as the couple who stayed in the unit next to me felt a similar way.
✓ the family was so sweet and hospitable!! adored them. i could have stayed much longer just hanging out. the rooms were clean and cozy and the AC worked so well I had to turn it off. the location was quite and beautiful! one of my favorite home-stays in India 🥰
✓ Wonderful stay at the homely guesthouse right by the water! The house it well located with a beautiful view on the canal, very quiet, I had a nice view on the water from my little terrace at my room. The room was comfortable and equipped with everything needed. The guesthouse is led by a family and I felt like a part of the family for two days. I helped cooking once and learned fishing from on the son's. I was served delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner, and tea and coffee during the day. I was taken on a boat tour (privat with a little boat of a family friend) through the bigger and tiny jungle-like canals of the backwaters. I felt very welcomed and would come back anytime!! Highly recommended :)
