Having searched for the best five-star hotel in Amsterdam, I have had the delight of personally encountering the height of luxury this ancient city has to provide. Every hotel presents a different slice of luxury from the time you enter the grand lobbies until the evenings spent gazing out over the lit canals. Seeking great comfort, first-rate service, and sophisticated surroundings, I explore the core of Amsterdam's luxury hotel scene in search of ideas that will enable other visitors to choose their ideal stay in this fascinating city. Below are 10 of the 5 stars hotel in Amsterdam I visited.

Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam

The great location of the prestigious Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam, right on the busy Dam Square, captivated me during my stay; the Royal Palace's grandeur is just a stone's distance away. Nestled in a lovely 19th-century building, the hotel delighted with its sophisticated parquet flooring and luxurious comfort of premium beds in every elegantly furnished room.

But among the immaculate bathrooms and first-rate conveniences, one feature in my room fell short of the five-star rating. The air conditioning system. The hotel's several great qualities notwithstanding, the ineffective operation of the air conditioning somewhat compromised my otherwise comfortable stay. It battled to offer enough cooling, which would be problematic in Amsterdam's hotter months.

Given the hotel's dedication to excellence, as shown by the delicious cuisine of its Michelin-starred White Room restaurant and the lovely Grand Cafe Krasnapolsky ambiance, addressing this problem would guarantee that every element of a guest's experience fits the high standards Anantara is renowned for.

Pestana Amsterdam Riverside

At the Pestana Amsterdam Riverside, the allure of staying in a converted Town Hall and Archive building, with its majestic architecture and historic charm, is undeniable. The hotel's location near the vibrant Albert Cuypmarkt street market, coupled with its excellent facilities such as a spa, fitness center, and the elegantly appointed ARCHIVE by Pestana restaurant, sets a high expectation for luxury and comfort.

However, during my stay, I encountered an issue with the cleanliness of the room, particularly the carpet, was not up to par. Visible dust and debris were evident on parts of the carpet, detracting from the otherwise pristine condition of the surroundings. This oversight in room maintenance was surprising and somewhat disappointing, given the overall opulence of the hotel and the attention to detail expected in such luxurious accommodations.

Cleanliness is fundamental to guest satisfaction, and while the hotel excels in amenities and location, enhancing housekeeping protocols could greatly improve the overall guest experience, ensuring that every corner of the room reflects the high standards of Pestana Amsterdam Riverside.

Great building with excellent service and location. Everything was very sweet, they even put a note for my friends birthday. We also used the sauna and the spa, which was lovely. Will definetly return.

There is no work-space in the room. A small table and a couch which is not comfortable for working purposes. coffee powder creamer as opposed to coffee cream is poor. only one combined restaurant / bar.

NH Collection Amsterdam Barbizon Palace

Staying at the NH Collection Amsterdam Barbizon Palace offers a unique blend of historical elegance and modern comfort. The hotel is impressively located directly opposite Amsterdam Central Station, providing unparalleled access to the city's attractions, and is housed in structures that feature authentic 15th-century elements, such as a chapel. The rooms combine historical charm with contemporary amenities, highlighted by 17th-century oak beams and modern conveniences like air conditioning and cable TV.

Despite these considerable attractions, I encountered a notable issue during my dining experiences at the hotel's Bottles and Jars restaurant. The wait time for meals was unexpectedly long, a stark contrast to the swift and efficient service one might expect from a hotel of this caliber. This delay was particularly noticeable during dinner, when wait times extended significantly, detracting from the dining experience.

Given the high standards of NH Collection Amsterdam Barbizon Palace and its otherwise excellent facilities, addressing this delay in service would undoubtedly enhance the overall guest experience, ensuring that both stay and dining meet guests' expectations for efficiency and quality.

This is my fifth stay here I believe. I like the place and the staff are mostly friendly. The decorations are beautiful, the room is lovely and clean, they provide a bottle of water every day. location is great and very close to every thing. Roxana at the front disc is multilingual and pleasant always.

the concierge ( older man) showed annoyance when I asked him if he was sure that a trip to the airport by a van, which he was booking for me, costs a certain amount of euros. He confirmed it, only to find out that it’s 20 euros higher when dropped at the airport so i had to pay by card. not professional.

Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam, nestled in the heart of the city just a short walk from Central Station, perfectly captures the essence of modern comfort fused with historic charm. With 274 guest rooms, including 15 in original Renaissance-era buildings, the hotel offers a unique stay experience complemented by thoughtful amenities like complimentary yoga mats and a tea station in the lobby. The convenience of an on-site restaurant, bar, and private parking enhances the appeal for both leisure and business travelers.

However, during my stay, I encountered an issue where the shower's water pressure. Throughout my visit, I noticed that the water pressure in the shower would unpredictably drop, disrupting what should have been a refreshing and steady flow. This inconsistency was a notable inconvenience, detracting from the otherwise impeccable standards of comfort and quality that Kimpton De Witt is known for.

Addressing this issue with the water pressure not only ensures the functionality and reliability of basic guest amenities but also aligns with the high standards of guest experience that Kimpton De Witt strives to uphold.

Great location, fantastic staff, comfortable rooms and superb cocktail bar

I couldn't fault it. It was the perfect location for me as I was coming and going via the station. I stayed twice here - on my way out and back. Both times were excellent. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and had all I needed. The cocktail bar was such a great bonus. Fantastic staff and a great place to unwind after travelling a lot. It was easy to walk to anywhere I wanted to go too. Will definitely stay again.

A pleasant stay at a friendly hotel in a central location.

The bed was extremely comfortable. A good selection of free to air tv. Friendliness of all the staff that I had an interaction with. The little gift on checking out. A lot of choices for breakfast. Very central to everything.

I found the lighting in the room too dull. I couldn’t see to repack my suitcase. The fact I couldn’t order any food at 2:30am as “they had run out of food”! It took me a while to work out the phone because it was not plugged into the wall socket and the lighting was too dull to see this at first.

Staying at the Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam, a gem located in a historic shipping house, truly captures the essence of luxury in the heart of the city. The hotel's Art Nouveau-style rooms boast high ceilings and large windows that invite a flood of natural light, creating a bright and airy atmosphere. Noteworthy amenities such as a Nespresso coffee machine, climate control, and sumptuous bathrobes and slippers add a touch of sophistication and comfort to the experience. The wellness center, with its comprehensive facilities including saunas and a steam cabin, offers a perfect retreat within the bustling city.

However, during my stay, one aspect that could be improved was the service responsiveness at the Bar Lounge. While the setting was idyllic with stunning canal views, the service occasionally lacked promptness, leading to longer than expected wait times for both seating and meal service. This slight inconsistency in service could detract from the otherwise relaxing and enjoyable dining experience.

The Grand Hotel Amrâth has all the ingredients for a memorable stay, combining historical elegance with modern luxury. Interesting old building in a very central location with great facilities.

location was great for the conference i attended. For Amsterdam, the room was large enough and the bathroom was also big. I rather liked the slightly strange decor! It was a bit quirky. I used the pool and it was great a real bonus for a central hotel in Amsterdam.

Did not like the pillows or the sheets which were both a bit synthetic. I did not have any view.

Hyatt Regency Amsterdam

Comprising a botanical-inspired interior that brings life to its modern and spacious rooms, the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam is an urban oasis. Having 211 guestrooms and suites—some of the biggest in Amsterdam—the hotel captures a rare sense of peace and space in a busy city center. Together with the energetic Mama Makan Indonesian restaurant and bar, the award-winning design provides a vivid but soothing backdrop for both business and leisure visitors.

The dedication to sustainability and botany, which permeated the conference and event areas as well as the décor, was among the pleasures of my stay. The hotel gains a distinctive touch from this natural ambiance, which also helps visitors to remember it.

But during my visit, I discovered a small problem with the room lighting system—which seemed unduly complicated and unintuitive. Changing the settings for several lighting scenes was perplexing, which somewhat compromised the general ease and comfort of my stay. Simplifying these controls would improve the guest experience by ensuring that every room feature is as friendly and easily accessible as the hotel's services and conveniences.

Notwithstanding this minor setback, the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam offers a remarkable experience where the combination of modern luxury and nature-inspired elements produces an interesting and welcoming environment, so ranking highly in the heart of Amsterdam.

Bilderberg Garden Hotel

Although the Bilderberg Garden Hotel provides a peaceful haven in a more quiet area of Amsterdam, it is still rather handy for the city's cultural pulse since major museums like the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum only a short stroll away. With a sophisticated restaurant and a cosy lounge with a warm fireplace, perfect places to relax after a day of sightseeing, the hotel's ambiance is clearly elegant.

Every air-conditioned room in the Bilderberg Garden is carefully furnished with a work desk, tea and coffee making tools, and a contemporary bathroom complete with robes and slippers, so guaranteeing a comfortable and convenient stay. Perfectly matched with a large wine selection that can satisfy even the most discriminating palates, the restaurant, De Kersentuin, presents a wonderful French cuisine experience.

But I observed a minor problem with the room service timing throughout my stay. The delivery was slower than expected on several times, thus there is room for development. Especially in a five-star hotel where visitors expect great degree of efficiency and convenience, ensuring timely service is absolutely vital.

For those looking for a calm but sophisticated experience, the Bilderberg Garden Hotel is a great choice because of its mix of quiet elegance and clos proximity to Amsterdam's rich tapestry of art and culture. Correcting the room service timing would improve an otherwise excellent stay and match every element to the great expectations of its guests.

One area that might use improvement, though, is the noise insulating in the rooms facing Leidse square. Especially in the late evening, the active nightlife of the square somewhat bothered me during my stay. Improving the soundproofing of these rooms guarantees that every visitor will appreciate the calm and peaceful surroundings anticipated of a five-star hotel.

For everyone looking for the whole Amsterdam experience, the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel is a top choice because of its strategic location, opulent rooms, and first-rate dining options.

Entering the Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel is like traveling back in time to the splendor of the 17th century while still surrounded with all the modern conveniences one could wish. Being the first hotel in Amsterdam, situated beside the picturesque Amstel River, it exudes a special appeal combining modern design with historical grace.

Thoughtfully built, each room offers a quiet haven with a work desk and cable TV, perfect for both leisure and business visitors. The hotel's appeal is enhanced by the on-site restaurant offering a delicious breakfast and the small bar, which offers ideal areas to relax.

But during my visit, I observed a small glitch in the otherwise flawless service, valet parking. Guests who were ready to start their day or go to meetings could find the slower than expected service to be stressful. In a city where parking can be difficult and guests mostly depend on the convenience of valet services, timeliness in such services is absolutely vital.

Notwithstanding this, the Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel distinguishes itself not only for its rich history and great location near important sites like Leidseplein and Museumplein but also for its attentive guest relations, ready to improve your trip with limousine pick-up or diamond tour arranging. Improving the valet service's efficiency would make the Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel an even more remarkable option for those looking for a taste of Amsterdam's old character combined with contemporary luxury.

A beautiful hotel, in a great location. Walking distance of all attractions. The rooms are to a high standard and the shower and the shower gels and body creams are wonderful. Friendly and helpful staff. I would most definitely return.

The staff at this hotel exceed expectations. They are friendly, welcoming and professional.

Breakfast was below average - improvement needed. I checked out of the room and went back later on the afternoon to say I left my charger in the room - and the charger fairies had already taken it. Hotel went above and beyond to rectify the issue, which was great.

Positioned just a short walk from Amsterdam Central Train Station and the busy Dam Square, the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel presents a flawless mix of modern comfort and convenience. With most of the major stores, restaurants, and attractions within simple walking distance, this prime location makes it the perfect base for seeing the city. The proximity of a tram stop guarantees that all areas of the city are readily reachable for sites further afield.

Modern furniture in the hotel's guest rooms promises comfort and utility; each one has a cozy seating area and an LCD TV with a wide spectrum of cable and satellite channels. One advantage of the 24-hour fitness center is that it lets visitors keep up their routines any hour.

But I ran across a problem with the guest room Wi-Fi during my stay. Whether for leisure browsing or business, guests who depend on consistent and fast internet access could find great difficulty with the periodically slow and unreliable internet service.

Still, the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel stands out for its strategic location and cozy Koepelcafé, where visitors may savor traditional Dutch food and beverages all day. Improving the Wi-Fi service would surely improve the whole guest experience and help to match it with the high expectations set for a hotel with this location and capacity.
